About StockPhotosSA

StockPhotosSA is a free library of South African stock photography. Every photo is shot by a South African photographer, and anyone can download and use them, including commercially, with no attribution required.

Why it exists

Search the big free stock sites for South Africa and you get a few hundred results: safari animals, Table Mountain at sunset, and not much else. If you are a South African designer, marketer, or small business, the everyday imagery you actually need is missing. Local shopfronts. A taxi rank. Braai smoke. Real people in real places.

Meanwhile South African photographers have thousands of those photos sitting on hard drives, with no easy way to be found by the brands and agencies who want them.

What we are testing

This is an early launch, not a finished product. We want to find out two things: whether people want South African stock photography enough to come looking for it, and whether photographers want to share their work here. If the answer is yes, we will build the rest: better search, bigger files, and a way for photographers to earn from their work.
